An inspired coalition of education stakeholders called the Citywide Leadership Team (CLT) continues to convene for this school year.
The CLT goals are to improve the quality of education, teaching, and learning, for all NYC public school students by ensuring that effective and efficient policies promoting exceptional opportunities are implemented by NYC public schools in a way that includes the voices of all education stakeholders.
The CLT is aligned with the State Commissioner’s Regulation 100.11 which calls for education stakeholders to engage in shared decision making. The CLT continues to bring together a mix of representatives of NYC public school affiliated unions, agencies, parents, students, educators, and invested New Yorkers as a unified group.
Ultimately, the CLT seeks to become enshrined in state law as supported by a report issued by the New York State Education Department in April of 2024 calling for more avenues for greater representation, community input and shared decision-making. The report also said currently, the majority of public hearing participants said they do not feel heard or included in the NYC public schools’ decision-making processes.
